The Human Practice presents

You have been conscious your entire life. But you have never been taught what that means, or why it is your greatest asset.

A nine-month school combining neuroscience, philosophy of consciousness, and direct contemplative practice — offered for the first time in this form. The school takes as its point of departure the distinction that neuroscience has recently clarified and that philosophy has long circled: that consciousness and intelligence are fundamentally different things. Intelligence is doing. Consciousness is being. Machines can simulate the first. The second is what we are — and what we have barely begun to cultivate.

The curriculum moves through nine modules: what consciousness is and how it is experienced; reflective self-consciousness; consciousness across mystical traditions; the subtle layers of consciousness; the powers and capacities of consciousness; consciousness and self; expanded consciousness; consciousness and attention; and consciousness in human life. The school weaves together philosophical teaching, direct experiential practice, and insights from contemporary consciousness science.

This is the offering most directly aligned with the current research and the civilisational question the work is responding to.

A gathering at the threshold of the new year, entering the living heart of Rumi’s mystical teaching. Not Rumi as inspiration — Rumi as invitation to direct experience. The retreat explores divine longing as a real force, love as the nature of existence rather than an emotion, and the Sufi understanding of the heart as the site of union rather than separation.
